jaque studio’s multi-volume boutique hotel in mexico

Amid Mexican nature and next to the sea, Jaque Studio designs Ennea, a multi-volume boutique hotel on the Oaxaca Coast, Mexico. The project consists of three main volumes that aim to generate a microclimate within the hotel, that opens towards the landscape of the nature reserve. The hotel buildings are turned towards a verdant garden, where two tree-house-style rooms, a bar, a massage pavilion, and the main pool are located. The material palette seeks to incorporate regional textures and colors into the hotel’s design. Exposed finishes, wood, stone, and local fabrics, are part of the featured elements that create a tranquil atmosphere, allowing the guests to enjoy their time in the resort

ennea creates its own breezy and shaded microclimate

Conceived by Jaque Studio as a small temple of welcome, the first of the volumes salutes guests in its double-height reception area. The space features exposed concrete maze-like bridges and staircases, creating a gradual transition from the outside world to the gardens, restaurant, and hotel rooms of the Ennea. The second volume hosts the grand palapa, a large, open-sided structure with a thatched roof that provides a shaded, breezy area where the restaurant is located. Exposed concrete columns support the palapa, allowing cross ventilation and offering views of the central garden, the pool, the reserve, and the sea. The architects shaped the third volume as a rectangular prism providing views of both the sea and the reserve thanks to its position. Inside it, a large reinforced concrete helicoidal staircase connects an open ground floor with the two upper levels of rooms. The ground floor functions as a shaded extension and pool area, allowing guests to escape the midday heat without resorting to air conditioning. The complex of shaded, airy structures, featured in this project contribute in the creation of a microclimate within the hotel.
