Bold yet soft, Shim Seungyeon’s Pressura Stool and Table offer an exploration of natural expressions through material compression. The method of pressing hollow metal pipes, a technique often used by metalworkers to efficiently fabricate metal structures, leads the Korean designer’s process. Departing from convention, pipes featuring a diameter larger than the norm were also utilized, emphasizing the impact of compression through visualizations. The compressed part was used as a connection to components such as the seat plate and the upper frame of the table, which lends the made object its unique characteristics.

Shim Seungyeon juxtaposes bold yet organic forms

The Pressura Table extends the three-legged support structure from the Pressura Stool, presenting an organic silhouette marked by glossy colors. These features, while bold, create a visual contrast with the surroundings of the table. The design, with its commanding presence, subtly asserts itself within each space. Currently, designer Shim Seungyeon offers a glass top option to amplify the features of the frame while simultaneously softening its appearance, with potential for development of future alternatives like wood and marble tops.
