organic curves and fluid spaces shape the lana, dorchester

Dorchester Collection’s The Lana and the Lana Residences have officially opened doors in Dubai, bringing a luxury resort to the urban heart of the city. The much-anticipated duo, commissioned by Dubai-based real estate developer OMNIYAT and designed by Foster + Partners, engages in dialogue with its waterfront location along the Marasi Bay Marina with subtle organic curves, green pockets, and fluid spaces.

Seven interlocking vertical gardens form the core of the development, each rooting the environmental and social focus of the design while enhancing availability of open spaces and allowing numerous break out spaces for guests, residents, and the public alike. Within, Gilles & Boisier’s interiors envelop the space with sleek material finishings, an interplay of textures, and muted hues that draw on the natural landscape of the UAE. The development sits beside the recently unveiled VELA, Dorchester Collection, sharing its vast glass facades, wraparound elevation, and fusion of indoors and outdoors for an elevated urban living experience.

foster + partners unveils new urban waterfront development

Comprising two interlocked volumes – one for the hotel and one for residents – the development is lightly lifted off the ground, rising to 31 and 30 stories, respectively. The arrival sequence, following the scenic waterfront, is marked with a grand water feature and a series of sculptures. Within, residents can enjoy exclusive access to the Members Garden, while on the roof the hotel guests can relax in the Sky Garden, with panoramic views of the Dubai skyline, with Rooftop Gardens and an exclusive infinity pool on three sides.

The building’s elevation ensures visual continuity between the marina and the approach road, while creating a landscaped public space at the center of the site hosting shops, restaurants, and cafés. Wrapping around the elevation, the waterfront dining spaces, both indoor and outdoor, are contained within double and quadruple height spaces engulfed with greenery. Hidden off one of these spaces is the Secret Garden which offers respite from the bustle of the promenade.

Throughout The Lana and the Lana Residences, Foster + Partners has integrated deep overhangs to shade the interior spaces and gardens, ensuring optimal usability year round. Thin floor plates create a unique form and lend each room its own private balcony with vistas of the waterfront and city beyond. Alongside passive cooling strategies, the depth of the balconies additionally reduces the need for mechanical cooling throughout the year.

gilles & boissier’s interiors evoke the charm of the desert

Stepping inside, the sleek minimalism and stylistic flair of Gilles & Boissier find expressions across the lobby, restaurants, guest rooms, and spa. The Parisian design firm has drawn inspiration from the UAE’s desert landscape and its cultural influence to define its visual expressions. A fusion of locally-sourced raw and polished materials throughout lend a touch of theatricality, while bespoke furniture integrations alongside an eclectic curation of pieces by local and international artists alike tie the spaces together. A variety of marbles in gentle shades of pink and beige complement darker stones like grey and black come together to create a dynamic layered effect.
