madrid-based architecture practice oficina penadés has completed a store for spanish shoe manufacturer camper in málaga, spain. known for encouraging inventive approaches to retail design, camper works with renowned creative leaders to create unique locations featuring an environment that is lively and engaging. its málaga space is the first time in the history of the company where someone has been allowed to design and fabricate an entire shop with their own hands.

for the málaga store, jorge penadés, principal at oficina penadés, visited a storage space for old camper shops in the center of mallorca. immediately after entering, penadés felt absolutely drawn to this place as it works as a sort of archive, housing custom-made pieces by michele de lucchi, gaetano pesce, ingo maurer, the bouroullec brothers and konstantin grcic among others. inspired by the collection, he proposed a risky idea: what if I use this space as a temporary factory and I self-produce the entire shop from here? together with his team, jorge moved to mallorca in the summer of 2019.
general view
using just three basic elements — perforated metal profiles, corner plates and bolts — the oficina penadés team designed and fabricated all the necessary elements for the store: from product display shelves and tables to different seating units, lighting, checkout counter, brand logos and as a bonus, the typography. overall, the design features catchy colors and a clean aesthetic.
