Crafted by the designer Aaron Clarkson, the furniture family is suitable for private moments as well as social times, emerging as a solution tailored for office and public spaces such as atriums, waiting areas, and travel lounges.

Established in 1983, Boss Design is a globally recognized name for their design and manufacture of high-quality contract furniture. Committed to uplift spaces across various sectors — ranging from workplaces to hospitality venues — the company‘s Senior Designer Aaron Clarkson takes an integral part in their design ethos, prioritizing comfort, ergonomics, and style.

‘Our brief with the Frida was to design a focus booth that departs from the corporate look-and-feel of existing products and provides a level of comfort inspired by residential furniture,’ explains Frida’s designer, Aaron Clarkson. ‘From our earliest sketches, we developed a design that would convey a sense of comfort and tranquility. We prototyped a sling-like structure with a curved seat base suspended from each side of the straight-sided pod which is reminiscent of a hammock. The seat appears to float on air – a soft and comfortable notion in itself.’

Suitable as both a lounge chair and a workstation, the Frida series is equipped with padded acoustic screens that provide essential privacy in bustling spaces. The refined upholstery, incorporating ergonomic CMPF cut foam technology, guarantees comfort throughout extended periods of use, whether for focused work or relaxation.

‘I can picture Frida pods arranged into a bank in an airport, looking out across the runways, or in commercial buildings that offer a panoramic view. I like the thought of sitting there in a private space, working and taking in the vista. There’s something comforting about that,’ says Aaron Clarkson.

The theme of comfort extends through the whole design. With no visible fixings, the seat creates the illusion of floating in air, reminiscent of a hammock, creating a practical area beneath for storing luggage, laptop bags, or briefcases. Additionally, Frida can be customized with optional features such as a desk, coat hook, charging points, ambient or task light, and ledges, catering to diverse needs within modern environments.

When Boss Design undertakes a new project, they prioritize sustainability throughout the whole process, by simplifying the product, cutting down on resources, minimizing components, and streamlining manufacturing. Frida is the result made from just three main materials: plywood, PE foam, and fabric. This approach ensures that the supply chains and manufacturing remain straightforward, reducing the carbon footprint. Moreover, Frida is designed for easy disassembly, whether for reupholstering to extend its lifespan or for separating its materials for reuse or recycling.
