permeable wooden cladding merges boutique hotel with nature on brazilian island

Maria Flor Inn comprises three interconnected blocks

Maria Flor Inn, a boutique hotel on Fernando de Noronha island in Brazil, emerges as a project by the collaborative efforts of Priscilla Muller Arquitetura and Solo Arquitetos. This 12-room establishment prioritizes integration with the natural surroundings and encourages guests to immerse themselves in the island’s beauty. Addressing the environmental sensitivity of the location, the architects opted for modular construction, predominantly employing a metal structure to minimize impact. The building seamlessly adapts to the topography, comprising three interconnected blocks linked by a walkway that varies privacy levels and provides diverse views.

The first block houses communal spaces, including a reception, restaurant, and a viewpoint overlooking Morro do Pico. The second block primarily accommodates guest rooms with views of Forte dos Remédios, and in between, a landscaped courtyard by Alexandre Furcolin fosters a welcoming atmosphere. The final block encompasses the hotel’s pool, blending harmoniously with the island’s native forest.

vertical panels bridge the hotel’s interior and exterior

The material palette comprises natural stone at the base, a dark green metal structure, and cladding panels and slats in Accoya, a weather-resistant genetically modified wood. These slatted panels serve a crucial aesthetic role, bridging the interior and exterior, and allowing guests to commune with nature. The interior design mirrors a contemporary language, emphasizing simplicity and sophistication. Maria Flor Inn, by Solo Arquitetos and Priscilla Muller Arquitetura, offers shelter and comfort while showcasing the island’s nature and facilitating a restful experience in harmony with the surroundings.
