Ser_arquitetos divides Cerrado House’s layout into two sectors

For the design of Cerrado House in Cuiabá, Brazil, Ser_arquitetos follows the concept of creating a residence without a specific occupant in mind, applying to universal living standards, and responding to the rising demand for housing in the Midwest of the country. The project divides the structure into two sectors: the intimate and the social. The entrance features a garage with a wooden ceiling, defining the volumetric structure, and a pergola-covered entrance hall that allows sunlight to create dynamic shadows. The social sector combines dining, living/TV rooms, a kitchen, and a barbecue area, with high ceilings and ample openings facing the pool. Access to the intimate sector, housing three suites with connections to lateral gardens, is through the dining room.

indirect natural lighting flows into Cerrado House’s interior

Constructed using traditional methods and covered with metallic sandwich tiles, the 174 sqm residence prioritizes the entrance of natural light while addressing the challenge of high temperatures in the region. The design incorporates elements for cross ventilation in the social area and strategically placed glazed strips and skylights for indirect lighting throughout the day, emphasizing the architects‘ consideration of the intense local sunlight in the Midwestern states. The residence establishes a thoughtful dialogue between the need for illumination and the protection of internal spaces, reflecting a comprehensive approach to design in response to specific climatic conditions.
