orense arquitectos designs home of serenity with mocoli house in ecuador

orense arquitectos explores the purity of architecture in the mocoli house – photographed by JAG studio. using primarily concrete and wood, the 460 sqm project is inspired by the intimate relationship between architecture and nature, which, in this case, is located in samborondón, ecuador. with the scope of letting intimacy and harmony fill the space whilst in an urban setting, the architects designed an open yet private environment for the owners. to achieve this, openings of various widths and heights are featured in the project, whether in the form of corridors, entrances, or internal courtyards.

to elevate the connection between outside and in, orense arquitectos chose a lattice teak that extends along the east façade of the mocoli house’s first floor. the timber element offers privacy and comfort through adequate ventilation, as well as an interior shadow play of the morning light. the feature also softens the solidity of the adjacent concrete surfaces.

the artistic frames outside continue in the interior. a long corridor, extending along the living spaces and the outdoor swimming pool and sitting area, leads to a double height illuminated space with a centerpiece staircase. upstairs, a gallery bathed in natural light flows through to the bedrooms. the upstairs journey is completed with a courtyard framed within concrete walls, once again highlighting the significance of interconnecting nature with architecture. the interior becomes a play of natural light and shadow, decorating the bare white walls creating an almost ethereal ambience.

the mocoli house becomes an architectural canvas. its large surfaces of white, wood and concrete unify whereas natural elements, like water, vegetation and nuances of natural light, embellish and harmonize the strict geometric lines. this turns the space into a refuge for serenity for the dwellers to enjoy.
