Team Group’s Vision for the Jan-E Ja Villa

Iranian architecture studio Team Group has unveiled its plans for the renovation of the Jan-E Ja Villa, located in Mehrshahr, Alborz, Iran. More than just a remodel, the project reimagines the concept of a home for a young couple, aiming to create a space that suits both their daily lives but also their professional endeavors. The architects view the house as a familiar support system, a stage for the happenings of everyday life. Their goal is to move beyond the traditional definition of a home and explore a concept that resonates with the young couple. This approach emphasizes the importance of shared experiences and the exchange of ideas within the domestic space.

The Familiar Support: Rethinking the Purpose of Home

Designing the Jan-E Ja Villa, the architects at Team Group recognize the house as an extension of human actions, encompassing various aspects of life and existing in dialogue with its surroundings. The renovation prioritizes the connection between the interior and exterior, blurring the lines between the home and the environment it inhabits. The heart of the project is a central core featuring a clear path that forms the main axis. This axis folds at its end, creating a dynamic flow that leads to the upper floor.

The main axis establishes a hierarchy within the home. As visitors move along the path, spaces transition from semi-private to private, with a corresponding shift in the quality of light — brighter in public areas and more subdued in private ones.

Inspiration: Home as a Personal Creation

Team Group sculpts the facade of Jan-E Ja Villa to incorporate angled blades that provide privacy from neighboring buildings. Tilted at approximately 45 degrees relative to the main axis, these blades offer a unique visual element, creating a sense of beauty from both inside and outside the home.

The project draws inspiration from a quote by architect Mayumi Miyawaki: ‘For everyone, a house is a mechanism for life, but in the mind of each person, a house has a separate concept. We repeated the memories and definitions many times with the young couple as the main user so that we could create a place whose concept is familiar to them from now on. Be the creator of new concepts for them. (home, I am myself)
