Cosmo electric guitar with movable pickup system

Product designer Robin Stummvoll of Verso Instruments bends luminous sheets of metal to form the tailored body of his Cosmo electric guitar. The result molds a B-shaped body, combining simplicity and technicality, as the metal-sheet body helps to reverberate rich sounds when the player strums the strings. The bent metal sheet body comes in an array of colors, all striking to capture attention and establish a modest design that requires no theatrics.

Alongside its bent metal sheet body, the Cosmo electric guitar also features a freely movable and magnetic pickup system, which is the device that converts the string vibrations into electricity. Robin Stummvoll says that the magnetic pickups stick to the steel body by themselves, thus producing complex sounds. The designer imagines electric guitars that are visually pleasing but without making any compromises in sound, playability, and ergonomics. Cosmo comes out as the final result, an instrument he meticulously builds whenever a client places an order.

Powder coating for bent metal sheet body

The Cosmo electric guitar by Robin Stummvoll of Verso Instruments can be customized depending on the player’s tastes. For example, the colors of the bent metal sheet body, which is powder-coated in RAL colors with a glossy surface, include matte silver, signal black, vermillion red, moss green, oyster white, light pink, pigeon blue, pastel green, and zinc yellow. The coating is thicker and sturdier than a painted surface and does not flake off immediately, ensuring a longer lifespan.

Cosmo is also available with or without control knobs for either volume, tone, or A/B blend, depending on the player’s preferences. Robin Stummvoll suggests that a purist’s choice is the single-pickup or no-knob variant, ‘which is very inspiring due to its limitations and capabilities,’ he says. ‘A master volume knob is essential for those who adjust their gain level with the guitar. If you’re in constant need of tweaking your sound to perfection, the two knobs with A/B blend offer you limitless timbres to explore,’ he adds.

Robin Stummvoll opts for magnetic pickups

Cosmo electric guitar’s singular and movable pickup system gives the player the neck, middle, bridge, and everything in between positions at once. Robin Stummvoll claims that the setup can help change the overtone and bass response, and the vibrating metal body is also captured by the magnetic pickups, resulting in a ‘vivid and surprisingly woody character,’ he says.

The Magnet Mount Pickups have a wooden case with a scratch-free fleece bottom, and they come with a Teflon-coated cable and SMB plugs for quick pickup swaps. Cosmo electric guitar has two pickup inputs and a 6.3mm jack output that can either be switched to mono or dual mono to allow the player to use their trusty mono tube amp, route each pickup in separate FX chains, or record two tracks in their DAW. Each electric guitar is made to order.
