LGZ Arquitectura & Daniel Lara Ballesteros design all-red pavilion

LGZ arquitectura and Daniel Lara Ballesteros’ Prolonged Moments Pavilion was selected through an open call for urban art projects at Centrito Valle in San Pedro Garza García, México. The pavilion is envisioned as a place of respite rather than transience, offering shaded seating beneath its cover and trees. The structure features a suspended red canopy over matching pavement and urban furniture with a stone-like appearance. Hanging PVC tubes with beads sway in the wind, mimicking the sound of bamboo in riparian environments. This design ties into the theme of Centrito Valle’s streets, which are named after rivers.

Prolonged Moments Pavilion offers a multi-sensory experience

The design by LGZ Arquitectura frames pedestrian routes similar to the traditional red Japanese Torii gates that signify a transition in a traveler’s path. Sound artist Daniel Lara Ballesteros tuned the hanging tubes of varying lengths to different sound frequencies, providing an immersive auditory setting. The Mexican-based architectural firm incorporated aromatic plants in the landscape design, such as rosemary, jasmine, and mint, to enhance the multi-sensory experience. The structure offers shade during the day and artificial lighting at night, serving as a distinctive landmark.
