Rob Ley composes ‘Ensemble’ dynamic public artwork in California

Ensemble by Rob Ley is a public artwork that draws inspiration from the extensive Ballona Watershed, reaching into the Los Angeles Valley. Reflecting the tall wetland grasses of the region, the installation explores how individual elements contribute to a larger, dynamic composition. The sculpture consists of 425 uniquely formed 3-inch diameter aluminum tubes. These tubes are meticulously arranged to create a dense, surface-like configuration.

tubes’ gradient colors shift to enhance ‘Ensemble’s’ wavy form

The gradient color palette enhances the perception of depth, with lighter shades in the foreground and darker tones in the background. This large-scale installation by Rob Ley Studio serves as a study of how separate components come together to form a cohesive and monumental artwork, echoing the animated surfaces and volumes found in nature.
